What is the mission?
Starship Technologies is revolutionising deliveries with autonomous robots that are designed to deliver food, groceries and packages locally in minutes. Last-mile and on-demand delivery, the most costly and carbon-intensive aspect of the supply chain, has been a stumbling block for logistics businesses across the world, yet demand is growing for rapid deliveries of food and other goods. Starship has created the most cost-effective, ethical and sustainable way to deliver goods directly to a customer over a short distance, solving the last-mile delivery industry’s major challenges.
Who are the founders?
Starship was founded by Janus Friis (Skype co-founder) and Ahti Heinla (Skype chief architect), who is also CEO.
Why did Taavet get involved?
It’s great to work with repeat founders Ahti Heinla and Janus Friis again from our Skype days. With Starship, they’ve built the global leader in autonomous technology from Europe, and it’s a true pioneer of autonomous driving and one of the best examples of European grit, ambition and innovation.
Since 2014, the team have been working tirelessly to build the most advanced autonomous logistics technology in the world, driving more miles and making more deliveries than any other company, whilst reducing the impact of last-mile and on-demand delivery on the planet. They have perfected the technology, streamlined operations and remained committed to making autonomous delivery viable and sustainable at scale – and they’re just getting started! This is the European ambition we love to see.
